CU CAMPUSES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL EVENTS PERMITS

If you are planning to sell alcohol and/or provide alcohol at a public function (open to the public as opposed to “by invitation only”) on CU property, it must be at a campus location that currently holds a valid liquor license.  These locations are very limited.  For any questions regarding this change, please contact your University Risk Management campus representative. 

If your event will include alcohol beverages, please be familiar with the University’s direction on serving alcohol.

Questions about the purchase of alcohol should be directed to the appropriate Campus Controller or Vice President or Vice Chancellor of Finance.  Questions about the provision of alcohol at a conference, special event or official function held at a location that is not a licensed establishment should be directed to the appropriate University Risk Management office.

Alternatives to Special Events Permit

• Rather than selling liquor, establish a registration fee or cover charge for the entire event (alcohol is not charged for separately), and give out two drink tickets per person for beverages which should also include non-alcoholic beverages.
• Hold the event at an establishment which already holds a liquor license such as a hotel or restaurant.  There may be a campus location such as a restaurant with a liquor license.
• Some campus locations may hold an Arts License for serving liquor for specific arts and theater events.  See the following website for information on this type of license:  http://www.revenue.state.co.us/liquor_dir/wrap.asp?incl=colliqcode/1247417
• Check with your campus events office or campus caterer.  Note that liquor licenses are specific to location—they do not “travel” with a caterer, so determine that the caterer has acquired a valid liquor license for the specific location where your event will be held.

UCB:  Centerplate Catering has acquired liquor licenses for certain locations in Folsom Stadium and the Coors Events Center.  Contact them for the most recent information on their services and locations.

UCCS:  The licensing authority in Colorado Springs has issued two permits to facilities located in an academic building (Arts License to the Gallery of Contemporary Art physically located in the Science Building; Beer & Wine License issued to Theatreworks physically located in University Hall).  SODEXHO also has a license for The Pub, physically located in University Center.  SODEXHO and UCCS Conferencing Services do not conduct open bar or individual alcohol sales at unlicensed locations -- for those conferences who request this activity we refer them to currently licensed locations to make appropriate arrangements.
