Foreign Travel Assistance Program
The Foreign Travel program is designed to assist University employees
while traveling in foreign countries on University business and is provided
at no cost to the employee or department. No forms are required. The Foreign
Travel Program does not provide supplemental health or medical coverage.
If you are a University employee injured while traveling on official University
business, you are covered through workers’ compensation. If you are
injured during a personal portion of a trip, your personal health insurance
coverage applies. Employees should check with their health insurance
carrier for more details regarding personal medical coverage during foreign

Effective 10/01/2004, Foreign Travel coverage for University faculty,
staff and student employees is being provided through ACE USA.
This Foreign Travel policy covers employees anywhere in the world excluding
the USA, its territories and possessions, Puerto Rico, and any country
or jurisdiction which is subject to trade or economic sanctions imposed
by laws and regulations of the USA. For a current list of these jurisdictions

The following is a brief outline of benefits provided to University
employees under the ACE USA Worldwide Assistance program:
Medical Assistance - Including referral to a doctor or
medical specialist, medical monitoring when you are hospitalized, emergency
medical evacuation to an adequate facility, medically necessary repatriation,
and return of mortal remains.
Personal Assistance - Including pre-trip medical referral
information, emergency medication (while on a trip), embassy and consular
information, lost document assistance (while on a trip), emergency message
transmission, emergency cash advance (while on a trip), referral to a lawyer
(while on a trip), translator/interpreter access (while on a trip), medical
benefits verification and medical claims assistance (while on a trip).
Travel Assistance - Including emergency travel arrangements,
return of traveling companion/dependants, and return of vehicle.
Worldwide assistance can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at
800-766-8206 from the USA or Canada or if you are outside the USA or Canada,
call collect 202-659-7777. When you call, please have the following
information ready:
- Name of caller, phone number, fax number, relationship to patient.
- Patient’s name, age, sex, and policy number 01 SP 585, Named Insured is the Regents of the University of Colorado.
- A description of the patient’s condition.
- Name, location, and telephone number of hospital.
- Name and telephone numbers for the treating doctor, including where and when the doctor can be reached.
- Health insurance information, workers’ compensation, or automobile insurance information if the patient had an accident.
Availability of services is subject to the terms and conditions of the
policy issued to the employer. Worldwide Assistance makes every effort
to refer you to appropriate medical and other providers. They cannot,
however, be responsible for the quality of the results of services provided
by the independent providers. Services may be provided by a third
party vendor. By requesting assistance, you agree to assign Worldwide
Assistance your rights to recover from any responsible insurers any expenses
Worldwide Assistance incurs.

Special Notice to Employees Traveling with Family:
Occasionally, family members may choose to accompany a university employee in
travel to a foreign destination. Please be advised that your choice to include
family members in your travel does not obligate the University of Colorado to
provide health or accident benefits to those family members. Any costs incurred
during the course of your travel by any family member, including minor children
or children for whom you are a guardian, are the sole responsibility of you or
your family member. Please check with your health insurance provider for details
regarding coverage for your family members while traveling outside the United States.
