Procedures
The University of Colorado
maintains a self-insurance program as well as commercial insurance coverage for vehicles
owned or assigned to the University of Colorado. University of Colorado faculty, staff and
student employees are primarily covered by this insurance while driving vehicles owned or
assigned to the University of Colorado and while use of such vehicles is within the course
and scope of their employment.
To Report:
- If the accident occurred
on a University campus, immediately contact the campus police department (Boulder:
303-492-6666, UCHSC: 303-315-8888, UCD: 303- 556-3271, or UCCS: 719-262-3111) or if it
occurred elsewhere, the police department for that jurisdiction. Do not leave the scene of
the accident and do not admit fault. Obtain the license number, make, model, and year of
the vehicle(s) involved and all pertinent information from the other parties.
- For employees who are
traveling on business, US Bank Visa provides free primary collision damage coverage to the
full value of the vehicle on rental vehicles. State employees are required to use US Bank
Visa when renting vehicles for official business (ICCR 103-1 Section-20.62).

- If the accident occurred
in the Boulder area, contact the Accident Liaison in the CU Transportation Department at
303-492-7152 to report the incident and file the necessary claim forms. Please do this the
same day if possible.
